A
BIT OF FAMILY HISTORY: Marty's background in cooking began
at a young age. He grew up in Peapack, New Jersey, working
side by side with his parents in their family-owned gourmet
catering company. Located in Somerset, New Jersey, Bernardo
Catering built their reputation of excellence through hard
work, strong family values, and an unwavering commitment to
quality. Marty's parents, Julia and Joseph, were well known
in the Somerset County area. In addition to catering for large
groups, they also specialized in private parties.
THE BERNARDO CLIENT LIST included famous locals such as
Jackie Kennedy-Onassis (who once stopped by the Bernardo
home to
personally thank Julia & Joseph for their outstanding
food and service), Malcolm Forbes, Christie Todd Whitman
(the Governor of N.J.),
Senator Ewing, and Nicholas Brady (then Secretary of
The U.S. Treasury), to name a few!
MARTY'S INTEREST IN THE CULINARY ARTS continued to grow,
and he pursued his passion throughout his college career.
Marty
graduated with a B.A. from the university well known
for its Culinary Program, Johnson & Wales. He went on to work in
Food & Beverage and Guest Services in Luxury Resorts
such as the Five Star/Five Diamond Westin Resort Hotel
on Hilton
Head Island, SC.
OUTSIDE INTERESTS; Marty's outside interest in Animal
Rights has led him to become "Dad" to many
rescued dogs. He is also an organic farmer and enjoys
selling his organic
produce at the local upstate Farmers Markets. Marty
is a great sports enthusiast, both as a spectator
and a team member
and
played semi-pro baseball for many years. He is an
over-the-top N.Y. Yankees fan! Through his many visits
to the Baseball
Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, Marty grew
to love the Upstate
New York area. This is where he began his company
BlueStone Farm and created the recipe for his incredibly
healthy and
delicious one-of-a-kind Granola!
